England Wins the ICC World Cup for the First time.

england win world cup

England defeated New Zealand in the supper Over of ICC World Cup 2019 final to be the world champion for the first time in the history of 44 years of the World Cup. It is the first time when the world cup title winner is decided by the supper over. England and New Zealand both scored 15 runs in the supper over, but England won the match based on the number of boundaries scored.

Batting first New Zealand had put up the score of 241 runs. Henry Nicholls (55), Tom Latham (47) and Kane Williamson (30) were the top scorers.  Liam Plunkett and Chris Woakes took 3 wickets each.

With Ben Stokes (89), Jos Buttler (59) and Jonny Bairstow (36), England also scored exactly 241 runs in 50 overs at the loss of 10 wickets. None of the other batsmen could cross the score of 20 runs. Lockie Ferguson and James Neesham took 3 wickets each.

The match was  driven to supper over, the first-ever in any world cup finals, all thanks to the over through that cost New Zealand extra 4 runs.

I’d like to commiserate Kane and his team. The example that they lead is hugely commendable to him and his team. It was a tough wicket where everyone found it tough to score. Buttler and Stokes put together a partnership, and I thought that would take us deep, and it did. This has been a four-year- journey – and we find it hard to play on wickets like that. To get over the line today means the world to us. I was being cooled down by Plunkett, which isn’t a good sign. Some of the support staff – not only the best in our team, but in the world, they really helped. Full credit to the two boys who went out for the super over, given that they were there most recently. Archer just improves every time he goes out there. Really incredible – everyone in the change room today, Willey, Billings, whoever missed out on the squad – I’d like to mention them too. – Eoin Morgan (World Cup-winning captain)

We were thinking about the overheads. We thought runs on the board – we would have liked 10-20 more. But in a World Cup final this was a competitive total. The bowlers really put the batsmen under pressure. It had to go down to the last ball, and then the last ball of the next little match, but a great match all around. It was a shame that the ball hit Stokes’ bat, but I just hope it doesn’t happen in moments like that. I don’t wish to nitpick, just hope it never happens in such moments ever again. The left-hand right-hand combination was useful in the super over, looking at the short boundary, but it’s unfair to critique a match fought with such small margins. – Kane Williamson ( Runners-up captain)

The team that fields first get the first chance to bat in the supper over. Batting first England had set the target of 16 runs in the supper over. Ben Stokes scored 8 runs and Buttler scored 7.

James Neesham and Martin Guptill were on the crease while chasing the target of 16 runs. Eoin Morgan handed the ball to Jofra Archer, Archer had given 16 runs maximum in a single over in 2019 World cup. New Zealand managed to score 15 runs with one 6 in the supper over but lost the match as the number of boundaries scored by England were more than New Zealand.

New Zealand was pretty unlucky on the field. A catch of ben Stokes on the boundary was converted into a 6 in the 49th over at the crucial time. Later England got extra 4 runs when an over through went across the boundry after deflecting from Ben Stokes Bat.

Ben Stokes was declared as the “Man of the Match” while Kane Williamson as the “Man of the Tournament”
