Mumbai Indians released Mayank Markande to Delhi Capitals in exchange for Sherfane Rutherford.
IPL 2018 sensation Mayank Markande will not be seen in the Mumbai Indians jersey in the upcoming season of the IPL. Mumbai Indians swapped legspinner Mayank Markande with Delhi Capitals hitter Sherfane Rutherford in the first trade deal for IPL 2020.
Delhi Capitals had bought Rutherford for 2 crore rupees from a base price of 40 lakh rupees for the 2019 season of IPL. 20-year-old Sherfane Rutherford is known for his big-hitting capabilities. Though he did not create an expected storm in 2019 season Mumbai Indians mentors and team management have decided to show trust in the Caribbean hitter.
Mumbai Indians team is known for exploring hidden talent, one such is Mayank Markande. In January 2018, he was bought by the Mumbai Indians in the 2018 IPL auction for an amount of only ₹20 lakhs. Markande took 3 wickets in his debut match against Chennai super kings and soon became the biggest sensation in IPL 2018. He was team’s third-highest wicket-taker, with 15 dismissals in 14 matches for 2018 season.
Another young legspinner Rahul Chahar had done the job for MI in 2019 season, picking up 13 wickets in 13 games with an economy rate of 6.55. Markande played only 3 matches for Mumbai Indians in 2019 season with just one wicket and going for 59 runs in six overs. With this stats, MI had an option to release one of the legspinners and opt for a much-needed power hitter, which they subsequently did. Markande will now be seen in Delhi Capitals jersey for 2020 season of IPL.
Mumbai Indians are now expected to release one overseas player as the overseas players’ count has gone up to 9. Few more exchanges are expected in Mumbai Indians side.
